KASE has been there for state employees!

KASE has a proud record of fighting for better health care benefits for state employees and teachers.   No organization has done more for state employees when it comes to the issue of health insurance.  Check out our record below:

1988 - successfully lobbied for creation of the Kentucky KARE, self-insured health insurance program.

1993/94 - Lead the fight against creation of the “Mega Pool” Health Care Purchasing Alliance. This program has been cited by many health care experts as one of the leading factors in the increase of state employee health insurance costs. KASE brought over 500 state employees to Frankfort to rally against it.

1994 - 1998 KASE lobbied to restore the Kentucky KARE insurance program to a public employee ONLY plan.

1998 - KASE sued the Patton Administration for closing down the Kentucky KARE program and lobbied for a 20% increase in the state’s employer contribution.

1999 - KASE worked with the Kentucky Education Association (KEA) to help fund a study of state employee health insurance benefits. This study resulted in a series of recommendations aimed at improving public employee health care benefits.

2002 - KASE worked with KEA to pass a mail order prescription drug plan for public employees.

2004 - KASE Lead the fight for better, more affordable health insurance for state employees during the 04 special session on employee health insurance.

2005 - KASE served on the Blue Ribbon Panel on Public Employee Health Benefits which recommended the Self-Insured Program.
